New Jersey CannaBusiness Association (NJCBA) President Scott Rudder issued the following statement today on the Senate and Assembly Budget Committees advancing legislation that would legalize adult-use cannabis in New Jersey:
“This is a historic moment for New Jersey. This will right several wrongs that have been perpetuated throughout the failed War on Drugs. It will take cannabis out of the hands of drug dealers and the black market, and place it in a well-regulated space that will allow small business owners to create jobs and pump money into our economy. Moreover, it will go a long way towards correcting the social injustices created through the War on Drugs.
“While I am highly encouraged by today’s actions, the legislation does have some challenges that need adjustment in order to make this a successful endeavor for all involved. I look forward to working with the bill sponsors to make these much-needed adjustments.
“Even with these needed changes, this is still a good day. I want to commend Senator Scutari, Senate President Sweeney, Speaker Coughlin, and Assembly members Annette Quijano, Jamel Holley, Angela McKnight, and Britnee Timberlake for their tireless efforts and for making today a reality.”
